Dr. R. K. Pachauri - 1940-2020
Our distinguished Honorable Member Dr. R. K. Pachauri past away on Thursday, February 13th, 2020, at his home in New Delhi., India He was 79.
Nitin Desai, Chairman of the Energy and Resources Institute in India, said in a statement that Dr. Pachauri’s leadership of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) “laid the ground for climate change conversations today.”
Dr. Pachauri was chairman of the IPCC from 2002 to 2015. In 2007, the Norwegian Nobel Committee jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to the group and former Vice President Al Gore “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change.”
Dr. Pachauri visited "Gamle Logen" in Oslo on two occasions, the first time in January 2008 where he presented the 4th assesment report of the IPCC and the second time in November 2014 where he presented IPCC's 5th assesment report. Both events were arranged by Oslo Vest Rotary Klubb (in 2008 named Skøyen Rotary Klubb).
